Press Release
"Inside Private Lives"
on October 19, 2008

MACH 1 – Move a Child Higher has served Pasadena and surrounding areas since 1996 providing therapeutic horseback riding for disabled children as a NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped) Premier Accredited program.  The City of Pasadena has designated an acre of land in the Hahamongna Watershed Park for MACH 1 to develop a center that will serve the community and San Gabriel Valley.  With the draft lease completed, the property is slated to be cleared and graded by the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009.

Fundraising for the new Center was kicked off on Sunday, October 19th at the Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena.  Kristin Stone of Kristin Stone Entertainment opened her heart to MACH 1 by sponsoring a benefit production of “Inside Private Lives”.

“Inside Private Lives” travels back to imaginary moments in time when controversy enveloped 20th century figures such as King Edward VIII, Marge Schott and Billy Carter.  The play invites the audience to take on roles and interact with the characters during the show.  The play first premiered at the 2005 NoHo Theater and Arts Festival.

A wine tasting event on the theater patio preceded the play accompanied by a silent auction. The live auction held at the finale of the play, featured a one-of-a-kind hand painted, signed model of MACH 1’s therapy horse, “Dr. Dotz.” Peter Stone, Kristin’s father also created a new brand designed exclusively for MACH 1, located on the horse’s rear. Peter Stone’s company “Stone Horses” also donated smaller Stone horses with the new MACH 1 brand as a special souvenir for everyone who attended. Kristin’s grandfather started the model horse industry with Breyer Horses and her father has furthered the tradition with Stone Horses, model horses for real horse people. The live auction garnered $1,100 for MACH 1.

Joy Rittenhouse, MACH 1’s founder and Executive Director, welcomed all the guests personally.  Among the attendees were Pasadena residents, Don and Julie Fedde of Fedde Furniture Company, Kristin Stone and her husband Matthew Palmer, John and Connie Flanders, owners of the Flanders Company, Bill and Deborah Latter, astronomers from Cal Tech, Gary and Betsy Birkenbeuel, Lee Ann and Ray Semaan, Erin Kelly, Kerry Kelly as well as many families of the MACH 1 kids, friends and supporters. MACH 1 also welcomed celebrity guest Anna Nicholas, competitive show jumper and recent host of Animal Planet television networks “Animal Planet Sport horse Cup.

The event raised over $10,000 bringing the total capital campaign to $42,000--a great jump start for MACH 1’s new therapeutic riding center.
